Our Savior
We believe the record of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Bible. The predominant theme of the Scriptures is the Person and work of Jesus Christ. He is God. Through the virgin birth, He became a human being. He provided the only way for our redemption by being crucified. Death and the grave could not defeat Him. He arose from the grave, He ascended into Heaven, and He will come again to this earth.
Our faith and what we believe are supported by the following Scripture verses.
A. The Deity of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is God.
- He was pre-existent with the Father. "The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made". ( John 1: 1-3, 17:5, Colossians 1: 16 -17 )
- He is the Son of God.
- His enemies said He was the Son of God. ( John 5:17 )
- Peter confessed; Thou are the Christ, the Son of the living God. ( John 6:69 )
- Jesus affirmed: " I and My Father are one " ( John 10:30 )
- He was without sin, as only God can be.
- His enemies knew He was without sin. ( John 8:46 )
- Peter said Jesus knew no sin. ( (1 Peter 2:21,22 )
- Paul stated Jesus was made sin for us, but He knew no sin. ( 2 Corinthians 5:21 )
- Jesus forgives sin, as only God can.
- The Scribes acknowledged Jesus could forgive sins.( Mark 2:7 )
- Jesus said He had power to forgive sins. ( Matt. 9:6, John 8:11 )
- Peter said He bare our sins when He was crucified.(1 Peter 2:24)
- Jesus performed many miraculous works.
- He healed many who were sick. ( Matt. 8:9-13, Luke 4: 31-44; 5:12-15, John 4:43 to 5:16 )
- He fed those who were hungry. ( John 6; Mark 8 )
- He had power to raise the dead. ( Luke 7: 11-18; John 11: 1-46 )
B. Jesus Christ left Heaven and became man.
- "And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us ."
( John 1:14; Philippians 2:7-8 ) - His virgin birth was prophesied 800 years before His coming. ( Isaiah 7:14 )
- The prophecy was fulfilled. ( Luke 1: 30-31 )
- Jesus demonstrated a human character and feelings.
- He became tired. ( John 4:6 )
- He became thirsty. ( John 19:28 )
- He became hungry. ( Luke 24: 40-43 )
- He showed feelings. ( Mark 6:34 )
- He showed emotions. ( John 11:35 )
- He experienced temptations. ( Hebrews 4 :15 )
- He experienced death. ( John 19:30 )
C. Jesus Christ completed His purpose and mission on earth.
- He died on the Cross. This was His main purpose for coming to earth.
- For this purpose He came into the world. ( John 12: 27)
- His death completed Isaiah's prophesy. ( Isaiah 53: 3-8 )
- The meaning of His death.
- His death was a ransom for man's sin.
( Matt. 20:28; Romans 3:24; 1 Peter 1:18 ) - His death was to pay the penalty for man's sin.
( Romans 3:24; 1 John 2:2; 4:10; ) - His death provided a reconciliation between God and man. ( Romans 5:10; 2 Corinthians 5:18,19 )
- His death was a substitution. He took our place.
( 1 Peter 3:18; 2 Corinthians 5:21 ) - The matter of sin was completely dealt with on the cross. ( 1 Peter 2:24; Hebrews 9:26; 10:12 )
- Death could not hold Him, He was resurrected from the dead.
- The reality of the Resurrection. ( John 20:1 - 10; 1 Corinthians 15:4 )
- Jesus told His followers He would rise again.
( Matthew 13:39-41; Luke 24:1-7 ) - The tomb where He was laid was now empty.
( John 20:12-13 ) - Many of His friends and followers saw Him and talked with Him. ( The women --- Luke 23:55.56 ) ( Mary Magdalene --- John 20:1,2; 11-18 ) ( Peter and the disciples --- John 20:3-9; 19,20,24-31; 21 1-14 )
D. The results of Jesus' life and work on earth.
- Jesus left earth and ascended to His Father. ( Luke 24:49-53)
- Jesus is our eternal Mediator in Heaven. ( 1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 8:6; 1 John 2:1 )
- As our Savior, He completed the work of salvation for all eternity. ( Matthew 1:21; Acts 5:31 )
- He is our only Savior. ( Acts 4:12 )
- He is our complete Savior. ( Hebrews 7:25 )
- He is our personal Savior. ( Romans 10: 9,10 )
E. The final Consummation of His work.
- Jesus will again return to this earth. ( Acts 1:11; Hebrews 10:37; John 14:3 )
- There will be a bodily resurrection of believers to begin a new life. ( 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18; 1 Corinthians 15:51-58)
- Jesus will reign as King of kings over His new creation.
( 2 Peter 3:10-13; Revelation 22:3-5 )
